Health Care Open Enrollment Starts Today
Open enrollment for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace®, also known as Obamacare, starts today, November 1, 2023, and runs through January 15, 2024. This is the only time of year that you can enroll in or change Marketplace coverage for the next year, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?
The Health Insurance Marketplace® is a government-run website where you can shop for and compare health insurance plans from private insurers. You may also be eligible for financial assistance to help you pay for your premiums.
Who should enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace?
Anyone who does not have health insurance through an employer or other source can enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace®. This includes individuals, families, and small businesses.
How to enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace
To enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace®, you can visit the website at HealthCare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596. You will need to create an account and provide information about your income, household size, and health status.
What to expect during open enrollment
When you enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace®, you will have a chance to compare health insurance plans from different insurers. You can compare plans by price, benefits, and coverage area. You can also get help from a Marketplace counselor to choose the right plan for you.
Financial assistance for health insurance
If you meet certain income requirements, you may be eligible for financial assistance to help you pay for your health insurance premiums. This assistance is available through the Marketplace® and is known as premium subsidies.
How to change your health insurance plan
If you already have health insurance through the Marketplace®, you can change your plan during open enrollment. To do so, you will need to log into your account and choose a new plan. You can also make changes to your coverage, such as adding or removing family members.
Open enrollment is a great opportunity to review your health insurance coverage and make sure that you have the right plan for your needs. If you are uninsured or underinsured, I encourage you to visit HealthCare.gov today to learn more about your options.
